Simulation of radar sensors can involve models of different abstraction levels (object-based or reflection-based). In the context of SUC3, a modular, standardized radar toolchain was developed that simulates typical effects of radar processing on a phenomenological level, combining aspects of both levels. System under Test (SUT) is a radar-based tracking simulation, accompanied by an “optimal subpattern assignment” (OSPA) metric comparing positions of tracked objects with respect to an ideal ground truth (GT) object list.

Due to its modular structure, the developed toolchain enables integration of different environment simulation tools, sensor models and SUTs. The modularity of the approach was achieved through the consistent use of Open Simulation Interface (OSI) interfaces and the integration of models using the Functional Mock-Up Interface (FMI). Finally, the OpenMATERIAL approach enabled consistent use of 3D models and sensor principle specific material parameters.
