When using models and simulations (M&S) for development-related, safety-critical, or release-relevant decisions, the question always arises as to whether the simulation results generated by these models can actually be used for the respective development task. This means that in addition to the actual main goal of the safety validation of an automated driving system, evidence must first be provided that the simulation methods used for that task accurately represent the real world for the given application purpose.
This leads to the question: Do you trust in your models and simulations?
After a short motivation of the topic, this session will deal with the exact meaning of model and simulation credibility. On this basis, we will then discuss how to prove credibility on the model layer. Finally, an overview of the different activities performed in SET Level on the topic of model and simulation credibility will be given and it will be shown how the generated artifacts can support a holistic credibility assessment procedure.
